Dr. Jack Heinemann is at present an Associate Professor at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Canterbury, Christchurch. He is the Director of INBI-Centre for Integrated Research in Biosafety, New Zealand, and an Adjunct Professor at GenØk (Norwegian Institute of Gene Ecology). He is listed on the UN Roster of Biosafety Experts for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. Dr. Heinemann was the 2002 recipient of the New Zealand Association of Scientists Research Medal. He has published extensively in the literature of horizontal gene transfer and biosafety as well as related fields within bacterial genetics and molecular biology.
