The "Königswinter workshop" on European responsibility for biosafety research convened by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, Germany, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany and the Norwegian Institute for Gene Ecology (GenØk), brought together European researchers, regulators and donors who already work on or can contribute significantly to initiatives supporting research and capacity building measures in the developing countries aiming at implementing the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety under the Convention of Biological Diversity.
