Trond Roger Skotvold holds a Cand.Real. in Freshwater ecology (limnology). Following his career in Akvaplan-niva, a Norwegian research and consultancy company where he was administrative leader and senior researcher for 15 years, Skotvold was Director of the research institute Norut-Nibr. After this he had the position as County Director in the department of environment protection at the County Governor of Troms. His present position is Director of GenØk, the Norwegian Institute of Gene Ecology. He has carried out many field studies in lakes both on the Norwegian mainland and in Arctic areas of Norway, and has been author of several reports for the Norwegian Pollution Control Authority. Skotvold participated as appointed expert from Norway in the Arctic Monitoring Assessment Program for four years. He has several publications in international papers on POPs and heavy metal pollution in freshwater systems.
